Maiwa - An enlightened business based in Vancouver, BC

Maiwa is an inspiration to anyone who does business in the world of textiles. How comforting to know there's a company out there that is successful and sustainable; and cares about its sources, and wants to work towards the betterment of artisans, local environments and so forth. It's a company that has gone against the grain and made it work.

There's a cost to running an ethical business.  It sometimes means paying a bit more for a better experience and a better product.

Oakville Sewers Forum: Supporting the local sewing community

Oakville Sewers Forum is for anyone interested in the art and craft of working with fabric and thread. The Oakville Sewers Forum provides the opportunity for sewing enthusiasts to share ideas with, and enjoy the camaraderie of, others of similar interests while being updated on the latest tips and trends in sewing.

Oakville Sewers Forum is facilitated by Catherine Goetz of Distinctive Sewing Supplies, and meets on a monthly basis to share information about sewing related events, publications, techniques and products. The focus of the Oakville chapter of Sewers Forum is garment sewing, although many other forms of sewing are encouraged and welcomed.  Normally we meet on the third Tuesday of the month, but the first meeting of the 2010/2011 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 14, 2010 due to the American Sewing Expo taking place in Novi (just outside Detroit), Michigan the following week.  Our September 2010 meeting with feature member Joanne Thomson, owner of Joanne's Creative Notions. She will be showing us all the fabulous possibilities of using Shiva Painstiks on fabric with stencils and rubbing plates.  This is a hands-on session for those who wish to participate.  The meeting is free to members, free to first time guests and $7 for returning guests.  Annual membership is $40 which covers access to the members-only Yahoo Group resources and meetings from September 2010 to June 2011, plus discounts at many local retailers.
